Under the law, employers typically cannot require or even suggest that an employee or prospective employee take a polygraph test. An exception is for investigations involving economic loss or injury to the employer's business, which includes theft, embezzlement, misappropriation, or an act of unlawful industrial espionage or sabotage.
Another exception is for job applicants of security service firms (armored car, alarm, and guard) and of pharmaceutical manufacturers, distributors, and dispensers. These exams are typically single-issue but may cover several issues depending on the request and/or information provided.
